The United States Bureau of Economic Analysis Announces Revision to Its Confidentiality Pledge Due to New Department of Homeland Security Activity

February 13, 2017

Pursuant to the Federal Cybersecurity Enhancement Act of 2015, DHS has been commissioned to provide cybersecurity protection to the BEA's information technology systems. As a result, DHS may now have access to small portions of confidential statistical data collected by the BEA. While DHS' use of BEA data is restricted to protecting information and information systems from cybersecurity risks, the BEA can no longer promise that only BEA personnel and its sworn agents will see submitted data. The BEA imposes mandatory reporting obligations on multinationals and parties engaged in FDI and cross-border services and IP transactions.
