Former School Superintendent Mary Robinson Cohen Joins Porzio Compliance Services, LLC

MORRISTOWN, N.J. – Porzio Compliance Services, LLC (PorzioCS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the law firm of Porzio, Bromberg & Newman, PC, is pleased to announce that Mary Robinson Cohen has joined the PorzioCS Education Team. Cohen’s extensive education background will provide existing and future clients with practical hands-on experience and expertise. As a Senior Education Specialist, Cohen will provide regulatory compliance and strategic advice to public, private, charter school, and university leaders on a broad range of matters.  

The law firm’s managing principal and PorzioCS President Vito A. Gagliardi, Jr., states, “Mary’s experience enables her to provide clients with a deep understanding of their business, political and social issues because she has been in their shoes.”  Gagliardi further explains, “Her pragmatic approach will strengthen and enhance the services we provide to our clients.”  

Cohen’s extensive career in education began in 1994 as a History and African American Studies teacher at Princeton Day School. Later, she was a Social Studies teacher with Middlesex County Educational Services Commission and South Brunswick Township Public Schools, where she also served in administrative roles. Cohen joined South Hunterdon Regional High School in 2009 as Assistant Principal and served as Acting Principal.  Cohen most recently served as the Chief School Administrator — Superintendent and Principal — of Roosevelt Public School District. Under her leadership, Roosevelt was ranked the number one elementary district in Monmouth County by Niche magazine.

Cohen joins the PorzioCS Education Team currently consisting of David Hespe, former New Jersey Commissioner of Education; Liz Shea, former Assistant Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Human Services; Kevin Craig, retired New Jersey Police Chief and certified School Safety Specialist; and Jim Mottola, former special-agent-in-charge of the New Jersey office of the U.S. Secret Service.

Cohen is certified as a School Administrator in New Jersey, and a Principal in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York. She received her Principal Certification in 2007 from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education, Educational Leadership Program for Aspiring Principals. She also received a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. From Bryn Mawr College, Cohen received an M.A. in sociology as well as a B.A., cum laude.
