Kevin Craig, Vice President of Safety, Security, and Investigations at PorzioCS and a recognized expert in law enforcement and school security, has been appointed by outgoing Governor Phil Murphy to serve on the New Jersey School Safety and Security Task Force.
“I’m honored to return to this critical task force,” said Craig. “With over 30 years of experience in law enforcement, school security, and emergency management, I look forward to helping the state identify best practices that protect students, staff, and communities while supporting effective, actionable policies.”
The School Safety and Security Task Force is charged with reviewing and developing recommendations to improve school safety and security across New Jersey. Comprised of 17 members—including state officials, association representatives, and experts in law enforcement, mental health, and school security—the task force evaluates emergency planning, staff training, building security, and the use of advanced security technologies such as identification systems, panic alarms, and perimeter hardening.
Craig previously served on the 2015 School Security Task Force, appointed by Governor Christie. The current task force will build upon the 2015 report and recommendations, incorporating statewide research, best practices from other states, and professional expertise to develop actionable strategies for school safety.
Craig is uniquely qualified for this role. A retired New Jersey Police Chief, he is a licensed private detective, school safety specialist, and certified instructor in active shooter response, de-escalation, and threat assessment. He has represented the NJ State Association of Chiefs of Police on K-12 task forces and has conducted extensive training, planning, and assessments for public and private schools, businesses, and faith-based institutions. He also serves as an adjunct professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University and has authored a book on school safety best practices.
“This task force provides an important opportunity to apply lessons learned and deliver actionable guidance to ensure every New Jersey student learns in a safe, secure environment,” Craig added.
